What are sound modules?

Wikipedia says: "A
sound module (sometimes referred to as tone generator) is an electronic musical instrument without a human-playable interface such as a keyboard. Sound modules have to be "played" using an externally connected device."
Hmmm, that sounds kind of complicated but really it's not. A sound module is just a "box of sounds" which you connect to a Keyboard Controller , DJ Controller or Control Surface to create great music. Sound modules can be rack mounted or table top type and come from top names like Arturia, Dave Smith, Moog, Muse Research, Roland and more.
They often are installed with VCA's, oscillators, filters, effects,
arpeggiators etc., so you can take the sound that comes in the box and bend it and shape it into something totally unique.
