Morphestra...I remember him—big dude, trench coat, called the shots in The Matrix...
Exactly! Only now he’s been reincarnated as a Sample Logic sound developer, dedicated to creating virtual
instruments and sound libraries that “blur the line between music and sound design.” (After all, once you’ve saved the world, what challenges are left?}
In reality, Morphestra is the latest/greatest offering from Joe Trupiano and Keith Robinson—the team that brought you the ground-breaking and award-winning AIR, Elements, and Synergy sample libraries. This time out, Joe and Keith have literally reinvented the orchestra, serving up a whopping 23GB of unique, inspiring, production-ready sounds that have their roots in the traditional orchestra, but have been blended, twisted, processed and, yes, morphed into entirely new classes of sounds
You mean Morphestra is “The One?”
Actually, it’s the many. Forming the basis of the library are samples recorded around the world, both in the studio and in the field. A small sampling (pun intended): Strings, brass, winds, symphonic & world percussion, vocals, guitars, waterphone, animals, warehouses, tools, machinery, and a huge assortment of world/ethnic instruments. Those sounds were then combined, Sample Logic-style, with a host of electronic synthesis elements to create never-before-heard instruments, but ones that still retain a recognizable, real-world flavor. You could describe the library as a collection of “Inventive Organic Ensembles”—Inventive, as in new and original, Organic, as in real (versus synthesized), and Ensembles as in instrument families.
Morphestra sounds are organized into three main categories: Atmospheres (Ambience, Stingers), Instrumentals (Melodies, Pads) and Percussive (Big Hit Ensembles, Impacts, Kits, Rhythms,Transitions). Within these broad categories you’ll find:
- Atmosphere/ambient soundscapes and stinger construction kits
- Traditional and morphed winds, brass, strings, synths, mallets, bells, solo and ensemble pads, and
melodic instruments
- Melodic and rhythmic tempo-synced loops, loop construction kits, and arpeggiated/gated melodic
and impact sequences
- Impacts, cinematic ensembles, and percussive kits
- Swipes, scrapes, and reverse transitional effects
Morphestra contains over 1100 instruments and multis (combination presets), including a number that were were created by honest-to-goodness award-winning, world-class composers. As with all Sample Logic libraries, the sounds are organized and grouped for easy access, and they’re given detailed, descriptive names
Morphestra is based on the new Kontakt Player 3. (sorry it is NOT compatible with Kontakt Player 2) All of the powerful new user-programming features of Morphestra come courtesy of Kontakt Player 3. So Kontakt Player 2 is now officially yesterday’s news. But you’ll be happy to know that Kontakt Player 3 is included free with Morphestra, and if you own the full version of Kontakt 3.5, you can use it with Morphestra if you prefer.
