The Fatar Numa Professional Keyboard Interface sets a new standard in musical control.

The 88-note Fatar Numa was designed by synth guru Axel Hartmann (Andromeda, Access), putting the emphasis on playability rather than control. To this end, it features a progressive hammer action simulating the feel of a full concert grand piano.

The Fatar Numa also features an 'intelligent dynamic system' that enables players to quickly and easily set the keyboard up to respond perfectly to the way you play. Control of the Numa is via a touch-sensitive panel, and a graphic LCD display is included to give you visual feedback.

Numa looks pretty sleek and features an aluminum cover that can slide back to give you space to put your laptop or other control surface on top of the keyboard. A removable, transparent music stand is included too.

Main Features:
Touch Sensitive User Interface
Graphic LCD Display allows clear and efficient programming
Fatar Grand Touch keyboard featuring Progressive Hammer Action - Increased throw distance simulates a full concert grand
Unique You Play feature: the instrument guides you to set up your best dynamic touch
Advanced customizable velocity response system
Semi translucent polished ABS cabinet
The aluminum cover can be slid to increase the instrument surface area for Laptops and other controllers
Low weight for transportability
Removable transparent music stand

Intelligent Velocity Response
The StudioLogic Numa does not just feel good to play, it was built to respond better to your playing than any other controller keyboard too. Fatar have developed an 'Intelligent Dynamic System' for the Numa, which guides you through a simple process to set up the best dynamic velocity response for your playing. It is the most advanced customisable velocity response system ever developed. The Numa will memorize custom velocity curves for up to 15 different players.

Dynamic Modes
There are three different dynamic modes:

Dynamic Mode: Response like an acoustic piano. Notes are triggered at the bottom of the key travel and released at the top of the key travel. There is a choice of 'soft', 'medium' or 'hard' factory velocity curves or one of the 15 user velocity curves.

Organ Mode: Response like an organ. Notes are triggered near the top part of the key travel, but released near the bottom of the key travel. Velocity is fixed at 127.

Staccato Mode: Ideal for synthesizer sounds. Notes are triggered and released at the bottom of the key travel. As per dynamic mode, there is a choice of 'soft', 'medium' or 'hard' factory velocity curves or one of the 15 user velocity curves.

MIDI and Performance Control
A standard MIDI port allows the Numa to be connected to an enormous range of instruments, sound modules and other devices for creating sound. A USB port is also built-in and this allows connection to a personal computer. When connected to the Numa via USB, a computer will receive MIDI data, and this allows virtual instruments and MIDI sequencing software to be used without the need to purchase a separate MIDI interface.

While intentionally not going overboard on controller facilities, the Numa does provide the following useful performance controls:

Keyboard Aftertouch: Channel aftertouch allows MIDI data to be transmitted when extra pressure is applied to any key whilst held down at the bottom of its travel. Either MIDI aftertouch data or controller numbers 0-127 may be transmitted. Positive or negative polarity may be set.

Controller Wheel: A progressively illuminated wheel may be assigned to pitch or MIDI continuous controllers 0 - 127. Positive or negative polarity may be set.

Two Pedal Inputs: Either continuous, open switch or closed switch style pedals may be connected and used with the StudioLogic Numa. This allows use of volume / swell type pedals, sustain pedals and standard on/off footswitches. The pedals may be assigned to controller numbers 0 -127 and a positive or negative polarity may be set for their operation.

Four Keyboard Zones
Up to four keyboard zones can be assigned on the StudioLogic Numa to allow for comprehensive keyboard splits and layers.

There are numerous independent settings per zone: MIDI channel, key range, dynamics mode, aftertouch enable/disable, wheel enable/disable, pedals enable/disable, program change, bank select (MSB & LSB), volume, octave shift and transpose.

Easy Control System
A new 'Easy Control System' has been implemented for the StudioLogic Numa. The user interface panel has been developed using touch-sensitive technology and the graphic LCD display allows for clear and efficient programming.

Stylish, Strong, Lightweight and Practical
The StudioLogic Numa is built to a high-standard from semi-translucent polished ABS with an aluminum cover. This elegantly designed cabinet is strong, but of lower weight for easy transportability. The aluminum cover can be slid backwards to increase the top surface of the instrument to support a laptop computer, control surface or another keyboard. The Numa also comes with a removable transparent music stand.

How do I LOVE this keyboard let me count the ways! First the best piano action ever in a controller and I have been playing for more than 20 years and if it has been invented I have played. This thing rocks. Second the design it totally cool - it could be in a museum, I love that all the controls are on the side out of the way. Third the weight - it is easily the lightest of any full size 88 keyboard I have played yet it still feels sturdy not like some piece of junk! Forth the "you play" system, which allows users to design and save over 20 user-specific dynamic curves in addition to the supplied preset curves works awesome! I think it is the sold black keys (not hollow like most digital pianos) that really make this feel like the real deal.

I honestly could not be happier with this keyboard, or the Midi Store for quick delivery, no shipping, no tax and someone to talk to about this before I bought it! 10 stars to everyone!

Though great mechanics the NUMA does not support "Note-Off Velocity" (a.k.a. "Key-Off-" or "Release-Velocity").
Poor imho, if they say it would be "setting a new standard in music control" while the Studio88 had this feature 20 years ago.
Answer by fatar: wouldn't be economical because of the customers don't asking for it.
Of course not! Most userBs haven't even heard of it. But state of the art VST-Instruments support it.

Why "Note-Off Velocity"?
In recording classical music or Jazz (let’s say every piece of ambitious piano music) there’s no use for a keyboard that does not support the correct ending of a note (eg when ending a phrase or when distinguishing the musical character). Also in popular music it’s a loss if you are not able to create these nuances.

Buy something cheaper and wait for fatar to bring an instrument less of a compromise. The SL990Pro for example has indeed no Note-Off Velocity either, but the keyboard is only slightly worse.
Upper-class Stage pianos by Roland support Note-Off Velocity, but if you just need a controller-keyboard it's too expensive.
