At first when I tried this pedal out for the first time at my local music store. It was very hard to get any difference of tone in the distortion levels. So I went to bossus.com to hear some samples on the pedal to see if it was something I was missing. Turns out that there was a big difference in the distortion level. So still not knowing if it would work for me I bought it anyways. I hooked it up and it sounded great. The problem with hearing the correct tone and distortion levels was in the amp and guitar I was using to try it out. In order to hear the best sound quality of this pedal it is best to run it through a strat or les style guitar, a 2X12 speaker cabinet (4x12 will sound to deep), and a tube style head. Try it out and you won't be disappointed.

I have owned the Boss BD-2 since I was about 15 I'm 25 now and have the same BD-2 pedal. Its been with me through every style change from blues originally to rock into metal then to neo classical and beyond. You can put this thing in front of a Distorted amp on low gain and high level and tone and get a crankin lead sound with some screaming highs and harmonics. If this pedal is put in front of a clean channel it takes just a little tweaking to get some classic blues sounds back up the tone and set the gain mid was for a fat Clapton tone or raise the level and drop the gain to about 3 with the tone all the way up and use your bridge pickup it gives you a great SRV type sound. Overall this is an awesome pedal which can be used not only for blues but also to capture some great metal and rock tones as well.
