The Audix SCX-25 Studio Condenser Microphone features a unique design to coincide with it's exceptional audio reproduction. The cardioid capsule is shock mounted within a machined brass ring. The result is complete isolation from the microphone body with significant reduction of noise caused by vibration, without an external shock mount. The SCX-25 yields a wide linear frequency response of 20Hz to 20kHz, resulting in accurate signal reproduction, no matter the source.

The cardioid polar pattern effectively minimizes noise at the off-axis section of the microphone capsule, reducing ambient noise and feedback. The slim profile of the SCX-25 enables the microphone to be used in an array of instrument capturing applications as well as vocal reproduction. The SCX-25a excels in capturing piano, acoustic guitar, brass, xylophone (vibes), drum overheads, marimba, percussion and more.

The Audix SCX25-A Microphone is a high-response brass condenser mic with a 25mm gold-sputtered diaphragm. Revolutionary suspension mounting system (patent pending) achieves near total isolation of the capsule from the housing and electronics for minimized reflective surfaces and maximum phase coherence. Does not require shockmount clip. Extremely low-noise preamp design provides the open-air sound quality of more expensive mics. Wide cardioid pattern.

I have been using this for about 6 months now on a variety of acoustic instruments, ovation 12 string, a banjo and also some vibes and a Yamaha Baby Grand, also used for back-up vocals, and an upright bass. It is a really a great all-purpose utility mic that can be positioned almost anywhere due to it's very small footprint and built pin shock-mount. For the piano you can place one right over the high strings, face down, about and inch above the strings, six inches from the hammers...the same for bass,a little further from the hammers... and listen. This technique sounds crazy but I will tell you that you get a big, balanced sound that is open and airy , try it I bet you will find not other mic that you have can produce the response you get using this mic for that purpose as well as the others noted above. It's a 5 star mic for sure!
