Instead of getting a few sampled sections that you have to assemble
manually in the sequencer, DVZ performs real time divisi while you’re
playing, and our per-desk samples produce much finer sound power and
orchestral balances than the half or third-section ensemble samples of
some other libraries. We were the first company in the world to
introduce a patented real-time divisi library and process.
All sounds are up at once
As soon as you launch 70 DVZ Strings, you’ll find all of the
sounds are immediately available — preassigned to MIDI channels and
playable. You can get to work right away; you’ll never again have to
search through massive gigabytes of files to find the sounds you like.
Where were they recorded?
70 DVZ Strings was recorded at Lansdowne Studios, one of
London’s premier recording studios. We specifically selected this
recording environment for its neutral, open ambience that allowed the
strings to breathe while avoiding the kind of “identifiable” acoustic
signature often associated with sample libraries.
Which instruments were used?
70 DVZ Strings’ first violin is a Stradivarius. The second
violin is a Guarnerius. One advantage of recording in London is the
abundance of Stradivari and Guarneri instruments available. Instruments
like this and of similar quality were used throughout.
How do I play this library?
70 DVZ Strings runs in the included Kontakt 4.1 Player, either as five VST plug-ins (one per section) within a specified VST host or in a Kontakt 4.1 Player
standalone where you load the library’s 32 Kontakt NKMs using a
provided multi file for one-click loading. You use DVZ’s graphical user
interface on your sampler’s monitor to control everything rather than
using individual Kontakt GUI’s. Use your favorite sequencer or go direct
to a mixer/DAW.
Full orchestra can run at once on 1 computer
70 DVZ Strings’ can now run at the same time as our (in
development) Winds, Brass and Percussion Libraries. Our latest testing
using an Intel i7 860 computer, 16 GB RAM and hosting the Kontakt Player
4.1 VSTs in Vienna Ensemble Pro (v. 4.1, build 7043) have conclusively
demonstrated this, as can be seen and heard in this complete DVZ orchestra demo
A single computer, whether a PC or a Mac booted in Windows using Boot Camp, will run 70 DVZ Strings. Minimum sampler computer is a Core 2 Duo 3 GHz with 8 GB RAM (Specs).
Run DVZ on a separate PC (or a Mac booted in Windows with Boot Camp). Vienna Ensemble Pro hosts the library VST plug-ins in Windows. Vienna's sequencer plug-ins bring 70 DVZ Strings audio via Ethernet into five tracks on Macintosh or Windows sequencers.
Option A: Interface 70 DVZ Strings with your sequencer
1. A dedicated PC for DVZ (see the Sampler Specs)
2. Vienna Ensemble Pro software
3. Either MolCP3 version 3.3.645 or later, or ipMIDI software (not both).
4a. For Macintosh sequencers, MIDI Patchbay, or
4b. For Windows sequencers up to Vista O/S, Hubi’s Loopback Driver or up to Windows 7, MIDI-OX.
5. A Gigabit Ethernet switch and Cat 6 cables to reach the DVZ sampler and sequencer computers as well as your internet router.
6. Pro Tools users only: fxpansion Adapt VST to RTAS adapter (for the DVZ Sync Plug-in).
Option B: 70 DVZ Strings sampler as
standalone PC for Live Performance
1. A dedicated PC for DVZ (see the Sampler Specs)
2. Vienna Ensemble Pro software
3. An audio card installed in the DVZ sampler computer that has 2 or more outputs.
Some of the above listed items are paid software and you should
purchase and register that software during installation. Some items are
freeware or shareware. Website references are not given for the hardware
(Ethernet) items since there are so many suitable models and vendors.
Supported Sequencers
Sequencer Software
This can be almost any sequencer computer you usually use, so long as it’s relatively recent. We have tested 70 DVZ Strings with a variety of popular sequencer software including Pro Tools 8 and 9 (Mac/PC), Logic 8, Digital Performer 6 and 7 and Cubase 5.5 (Mac/PC).
Sequencer Computer CPU
We do not recommend using anything less powerful than a Core 2 Duo PC or a Mac Intel processor model.
Sequencer Operating System
Any Apple Macintosh Operating system from 10.4.x through 10.6.x, or any
Microsoft Windows Operating System from XP (SP2) through Windows 7
(64-bit).
Notes: We recommend that 70 DVZ Strings and the DVZ core
engine are on a computer other than the one with your sequencer. All
listed specifications are subject to change, without notice or
obligation, as we continue to test new and improved hardware, and as
third-party vendors upgrade their software. We do not claim that listed
software and hardware are the only ones that will work; they are our
suggestions based on what we have discovered thus far.
