Handheld records are all the rage — and with the PalmTrack, Alesis
proves that you don't have to spend a fortune to get surprisingly
high-quality sound plus a slew of extra features!
First of all, the
palm-sized PalmTrack has a bunch of different recording modes, so you
can tailor it to capture whatever you need to record each day. Use the
4-mic omni mode to capture surround-style sound of the whole band
practicing in the room. Go with stereo mode when you just want to
capture sound right in front of the PalmTrack — great for capturing
your singer/songwriter ideas. You can even plug in your own mic or
line-level gear into the 1/8" jack to expand your PalmTrack's recording
capabilities.
On top of PalmTrack's flexible recording capabilities (up to
24-bit/48kHz WAV files or standard MP3s), it also has a bunch of
built-in effects and processing to help you finalize your tracks. You
can use chorus, delay, and reverb to get creative. More than that,
you'll also appreciate the bass compensation tool that helps reduce the
boomy proximity effect when you close-mic instruments and vocals. The
PalmTrack's high-contrast mode makes it easy to see just what effects
you're dialing in, even when you need to work in dimly lit environments.
After
you made some recordings with PalmTrack, you can listen back to them
with the built-in monitoring system or by plugging in a set of your own
1/8"-equipped headphones. When you're ready to transfer your files,
just connect the Alesis PalmTrack to your computer via USB — or pull
out the SD card and put it in your card reader. Easy enough!
